Vibrant Management, the development and management company behind Watchman Villas, is based in St. George, Utah, close to several of the properties they manage, including their original property, Cliffrose. But Vibrant also manages properties outside of the Zion National Park area — including a luxurious fishing lodge on a remote island in British Columbia!

Closer to home, in Torrey, Utah, is another of their unique, boutique properties. Cougar Ridge is a working ranch and vacation destination. It features a Lodge that can be rented out for large groups. There are also smaller, private Casitas available that are perfect for couples, friends, and families. Located just outside of Capitol Reef National Park, Cougar Ridge is a great destination for those looking to extend their visit to Southern Utah and cross off another of the incredible Mighty 5 national parks from their bucket list!

Planning a visit to Watchman Villas this year? Why not extend your vacation with a few days in another amazing national park? Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about Cougar Ridge.

A History of Cougar Ridge

The property that is now home to Cougar Ridge was a working farm for many decades. It was purchased by its current owner, Don Cook, in 1989. He originally planned to build a barn and a ranch house and to continue to farm the property as a hobby.

However, in 2000, after his ranch house was built, Don shifted his focus. He had an idea to welcome tourists to a destination that paid tribute to the beautiful natural surroundings, while also combining a homey experience with luxurious accommodations. Don’s dream came to life in 2010, when the Lodge was completed. Seven years later, seven Casitas were also added to the property. This allowed Cougar Ridge to welcome couples and smaller families. It also gave guests the option of booking one-night getaways.

But Cougar Ridge isn’t finished just yet. Future plans include a Resort Center with indoor and outdoor exercise areas, a conference center, a pool and hot tubs, a restaurant and bar, a spa, and more. Recently, the Pavilion was added. This wedding and event venue can accommodate up to 120 people under its spacious canopy. An additional 13 Casitas with 3-bedrooms each are also planned.

Choosing Your Accommodations

Guests of Cougar Ridge have two distinct accommodation options to choose from.

The main Lodge is the larger of the two options. It features three floors full of guest rooms, kitchens, game rooms, and more. There are four master suites, each of which has a king-sized bed and private bathroom. Two of the suites even have a private hot tub! On the third floor of the Lodge is a bunk room with two sets of bunk beds and a bathroom for additional guests.

While the suites can’t be booked individually, the Lodge itself is a great option for family reunions, company retreats, and more. Guests have access to the entire Lodge and its many features and amenities, including a:

  • Game rooms with pool tables
  • Spa with a steam room, sauna, and massage table
  • Large hot tub located on a wraparound deck
  • Wine cellar
  • Bowling alley
  • Theater room

The Lodge requires a minimum of two nights for each booking.

The seven private Casitas are a great option for families, couples, solo travelers, or those looking to book a one-night stay. Each Casita features two bedrooms. This includes a master bedroom with a king bed and a second bedroom with either two queen beds or a bunk bed option. In addition to the bedrooms, each Casita has a living room and a private deck with a grill. Guests of the Casitas don’t have access to the Lodge, but can still enjoy the rest of the property, as well as a community hot tub. Two of the Casitas are even pet-friendly!

On-site Activities

Cougar Ridge is located just a short drive away from the entrance to Capitol Reef National Park, making it one of the top attractions for guests visiting the property. Capitol Reef is a stunning national park known for the Waterpocket Fold that crosses it, and the unique landscapes that it has created. While the park sees far fewer annual visitors than Zion, its remote and beautiful hiking trails and scenic drives are a great way to experience a different side of Southern Utah.

While the nearby national park is certainly one thing that draws visitors to Cougar Ridge, there is also no shortage of activities to enjoy on property. From night sky parties to barbecues, to sand volleyball, and more, there are a variety of ways to customize your stay. You can even host a private rodeo for you and your guests. You’ll also want to make time to visit with the property’s friendly farm animals!
