Are you thinking about planning a stay in our Springdale villas in 2024? While there’s certainly no bad time of year to plan a visit to Watchman Villas and Zion National Park, there are a few dates you need to know that could impact your trip.

From the lottery dates for hiking Angels Landing to one of our biggest sales of the year that can help you save when booking a stay in the best villas Utah has to offer, keep reading to learn some of the most important dates of 2024.

Take Advantage of Big Savings On Your Stay in Our Springdale Villas

If your travel dates are flexible and you want to save some money on your stay in our Springdale villas, the first set of dates that you need to know is coming up fast. Experience Spring in Zion with savings of 25 percent on stays of four or more nights in our luxury vacation rentals. This special sale starts March 1 and lasts until May 31. This gives you plenty of time to experience what might just be the best time to visit Zion.

As winter fades away, spring ushers in warmer temperatures to Southern Utah, but not quite the heat of summer. While crowds are increasing, they are still a far cry from what they’ll be in just a few short months, especially early in the season. Rainfall raises the water levels of the Virgin River and also produces some waterfalls on the park’s steep cliff faces.

If you’re thinking about taking advantage of our spring sale to experience this unique season in the park, don’t wait to book your stay!

The 2024 Dates for the Angels Landing Seasonal Lottery

Since 2022, visitors hoping to hike to the incredible peaks of Angels Landing must have a permit to do so. The permit program was created to help limit crowds. But the permits haven’t lessened the popularity of Angels Landing, which has made it difficult to get a permit during the busiest times of year in the park.

If you want to increase your chances of getting a permit during your stay in our Springdale villas, you’ll want to enter the Seasonal Lottery. As the name suggests, the lottery opens four times a year for 20 days at a time, and provides permits for the following season.

In 2024, the Seasonal Lottery dates are as follows:

  • January 1 to January 20: This lottery provides permits for hikes from March 1 to May 31. Permits were awarded on January 25.
  • April 1 to April 20: This lottery provides permits for hikes from June 1 to August 31. Permits will be awarded on April 25.
  • July 1 to July 20: This lottery provides permits for hikes from September 1 to November 30. Permits will be awarded on July 25.
  • October 1 to October 20: This lottery provides permits for hikes from December 1 to February 28, 2025. Permits will be awarded on October 25.

If you don’t get a permit in the Seasonal Lottery, or miss the lottery dates for the time you plan to visit the park, you’ll have a second chance to get a permit. The Day-Before Lottery opens daily at 12:01 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m. MT. Permits are issued at 4 p.m. This is a great second chance to try to score a permit for your choice of days.

Zion National Park Winter Hours Come to an End

Zion’s Secret Season is a great time of year to visit the park. But while you can enjoy few crowds, beautiful views, and cool temperatures in the winter, you’ll also face shorter hours at park facilities, as well as a pause on the operations of the Zion Canyon Shuttle and Springdale Shuttles.

In 2024, the Zion Canyon Shuttle will resume daily operations on March 3. Their daily hours will increase for the summer season on May 19.

2024 Free Entrance Days

Every year, the National Park Services hosts a handful of free entrance days. On these dates, the entrance fees for all National Park Service sites across the country are waived.

In 2024, there will be six Free Entrance Days:

  • January 15: Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • April 20: The first day of National Park Week
  • June 19: Juneteenth National Independence Day
  • August 4: The anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
  • September 28: National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

These dates can be a chance to save a little money on your visit. But they also tend to draw larger than normal crowds to the parks. If you plan to spend several days in Zion during your stay in our Springdale villas, you’ll end up paying the entrance fee another day anyway. This fee will get you access to the park for seven consecutive days.

So, avoiding the Free Entrance days might help you enjoy fewer crowds during your visit. But if your trip does align with one of these dates, you can always plan to spend the day relaxing and enjoying all that your private luxury villa has to offer.
